POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITION : Formulation and characterization of coatings deposited onto biodegradable and bio assimilable mulch films

The postdoc will be involved in a 48-month collaborative research project : FUI 2BiMulch project.
The project aims to develop and commercialize a new bio-degradable and bio-assimilable mulching film (requirements of the future European standard EN17033 "Plastics - Biodegradable mulch films for use in agriculture and horticulture - Requirements and test methods"). Currently, different films of mulching are on the market. These films are mainly made of polyolefins which have to be removed from the soil after use and recycled. The films of this current project will have a multilayer structure and or co-continuous and will be mainly formulated with alloys of biodegradable copolyesters with a coating on one of their face made of a varnish containing entities promoting their biodegradation after burial in the ground.


The missions will consist in the development of the mulching films with three axes of work :
- Development of plastic formulation with qualification of the morphology and mechanical and thermomechanical characterizations of the films.
- Optimization of the production process and coatings (formulation of coatings including prodegradant entities, determination of the physicochemical properties of coatings, biodegradability and associated microbiology)
- Evaluation of environmental impacts (biodegradability, life cycle analysis)


The candidate has at least one of the 2 skills below :
- Sciences of Plastic Materials (and strong interest for experimental engineering)
- Microbiology (and strong interest in experimental engineering)

The recruited post-doctorate has strong skills related to research and laboratory development of fast and reliable methods (development and design by trial / error methods). The general context of this work is part of the research and development of innovative strategies for the association of prodegradant entities in polymer matrices and tools dedicated to the study of this type of biodegradation strategy.
In addition to the regular working meetings, the candidate will report on his / her work in the form of written working reports and oral presentations. Reading / comprehension of scientific English is required.
